Bob Murphy’s Violin Shop’s school repairs program has served Long Island’s public schools for over 40 years. Our customers currently include 12 large districts throughout Nassau and Suffolk, which continues to grow yearly. We are available via the Eastern Suffolk BOCES for String Instrument Repair. Our exclusive Winfield Thomas line of instruments and accessories are also available via ES BOCES for purchase.
Our repair program is a complete, full-service operation. We will pick up your instruments from each of your schools to ensure they are transported to our premises with the utmost care and protection. All instruments then undergo a full inspection to reveal any hidden cracks or wear ETC; if neglected, such damage may expand further and jeopardize the usability/ playability of the instrument. Our bridges are custom-fit/cut to each instrument and receive the same professional woodworking and craftsmanship that adorn our showroom instruments.
Every Bridge cut in our shop is fire branded by the craftsman who made it. We only use high-quality student strings from esteemed manufacturers such as D’Addario Bowed and professional-level fittings such as composite tailpieces, carbon endpins, and solid ebony pegs. And once all repairs are complete, they will be driven back to their respective schools, ready to serve their students in music-making once more.
Our shop also features an excellent line of in-house instruments: Winfield Thomas. These instruments are imported from the finest foreign workshops with numerous pedigrees for quality; they receive a full in-house inspection and are set up by our professional craftsmen. We hold our brand to an exceeding standard, only placing the Winfield Thomas label in instruments guaranteed to bring decades of reliable, enjoyable music-making to its players.
